Best Church App for Small Churches in 2026

A useful church app should make the week easier: help people find a sermon, see what is happening, share a prayer need, and give. Here are six options worth comparing, with the costs and tradeoffs that matter to a small congregation.

Our recommendations reflect different ministry needs; there is no single winner for every church.

Where ChurchBeacon fits

If your church wants one familiar place for sermons, livestream access, events, prayer requests, notifications, and giving, ChurchBeacon is worth a closer look. Its annual subscription includes unlimited members, all available features, and personal onboarding support.

The regular price is $199/year. The first 100 qualifying churches receive the $99/year Founder Special, locked in for life. The donation application fee and Stripe processing are additional. See our current pricing and trial terms.

Members download ChurchBeacon and access their church within it. Personalizing the church experience inside an app is different from publishing a separate app under your church’s name in the app stores. If a separate listing is a requirement, compare custom-app packages explicitly.

For accounting, complex volunteer scheduling, a specific software integration, or TV apps, ask each provider to demonstrate your exact workflow. ChurchBeacon may complement tools you already use; do not assume it replaces every back-office system.

Compare the whole giving bill

A free subscription does not mean free payment processing. A low app subscription also does not guarantee the lowest total cost for your church. Compare these separately:

  • Software: the app subscription and any required modules.
  • Payments: processor charges, any platform/application fee, and any fixed charge per donation.
  • Extras: setup, texting, custom branding, media storage, or other services your church needs.

For ChurchBeacon, the published application fee is 0.5% of donations, plus Stripe processing fees. For illustration, $10,000 in donations subject to that application fee produces a $50 application fee, before Stripe processing and the annual subscription. This is a fee example, not a savings claim.

Ask every provider for a cost estimate using the same donation volume, number of gifts, card/bank-transfer mix, and donor fee-coverage assumptions. Confirm the applicable rates and any special conditions directly. The vendor links in the table are a starting point.

Five questions to ask before choosing

  1. What do we need members to do each week? Pick three tasks, such as finding Sunday’s sermon, checking an event, and submitting a prayer request. Test those first.
  2. Who will keep it current? Have a volunteer try posting an announcement and updating an event. Include the weekly time commitment in your decision.
  3. What will the complete first year cost? Get subscription, setup, payment, and add-on charges in writing. Ask about renewal prices and cancellation terms.
  4. Does it work with the tools we already use? Verify your giving, streaming, accounting, and people-record workflows. Ask what data can be exported and in which formats.
  5. Can our congregation use it comfortably? Try it with a few members on both iPhone and Android. Check text readability, sign-in steps, notifications, and privacy controls.

Common questions from small churches

Is there a free church app?

Yes. Planning Center offers free Church Center essentials and a free People database, with limits or charges for additional products and features. ChMeetings also offers a free plan for up to 50 people. Check what your church needs beyond the free tier; online payment processing can still carry fees.

Do we need our own app-store listing?

That depends on your priorities. A shared app can give members access to your church without a separate store listing. A custom-branded app may matter if your church name and icon must appear as a distinct app in the stores. Ask to see the actual download and sign-in experience.

Should we replace our church-management software?

Only if the replacement covers the workflows you rely on. Member communication and back-office administration are different needs. Keeping a working accounting or scheduling system can be a sensible choice.

How does ChurchBeacon’s trial work?

The trial includes every feature for 30 days. A payment method is required during secure setup. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, Stripe charges the selected annual price and renews it annually. Donation application and processing fees still apply; the trial is not a waiver of payment-processing costs.

A practical next step

Shortlist two options that match your needs and let the people who will use them try the same tasks. If ChurchBeacon’s member features, annual pricing, and personal onboarding fit your congregation, start with our demo. If another platform better supports your ministry, choose the one your team can confidently maintain.
